The family’s first venture into modern medical philanthropy, and the one place on this list where the 1956 charitable will is still visibly at work. An LVPEI centre renamed for the family in 2021, and reopened in a larger home at Kondapur in January 2026 by the Governor of Telangana.
The Lahoti Contribution
In 1956 Rai Saheb Pannalal Hiralal Lahoti directed by will that one-fourth of his estate be set aside, in perpetuity, for hospitals and educational institutions. Seventy years later that instrument — now the Raisaheb Pannalal Hiralal Lahoti Trust — funded the upgrade of an eye hospital in a part of Hyderabad that did not exist when he wrote it.
LVPEI already ran a centre at Madhapur. With support from the trust, whose managing trustee is Sureshchandra P. Lahoti, the centre was upgraded and renamed the Lahoti Eye Centre. It was formally inaugurated in February 2021 by Syed Akbaruddin, the retired diplomat who had served as India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
The family did not build a hospital. They took one that already worked and made it work for more people.
That distinction matters. LVPEI is among the most respected eye-care networks in the world, and provides more than half its services free of charge regardless of the complexity of care or the patient’s ability to pay. Funding capacity inside a system like that reaches further, faster, than a new building with a family name on it ever could.

In January 2026 the centre moved from Madhapur to a larger and more accessible site at the Pranava Vaishnaoi Business Park in Kondapur, extending comprehensive eye care further into the western corridor of the city.
It was inaugurated by Shri Jishnu Dev Varma, Governor of Telangana, who spoke of the state’s pride in LVPEI’s research and its record of making eye health available to everyone regardless of ability to pay. Dr Prashant Garg, Executive Chairman of LVPEI, described the expansion as a step toward bringing specialised care closer to the community.
Sureshchandra P. Lahoti and Prshant K. Lahoti attended for the trust. Speaking afterwards, Sureshchandra Lahoti said it was gratifying for the family to see the centre in a more spacious location, with trusted eye care within reach of more citizens.
February 2021
LVPEI’s Madhapur centre is upgraded with the trust’s support and renamed the Lahoti Eye Centre. Inaugurated by Syed Akbaruddin, former Permanent Representative of India to the UN.
25 January 2026
The centre reopens at Kondapur in a larger facility with improved patient flow, accessibility and parking — inaugurated by the Governor of Telangana.

For Patients
The Lahoti Eye Centre provides comprehensive outpatient and diagnostic services, with dedicated departments across seven specialties. Patients can walk in during OPD hours or telephone ahead for an appointment; follow-up consultations and community camp referrals are also accepted.
Where advanced surgical or specialty treatment is needed, patients are referred within the network to the LVPEI Quaternary Eye Care Institute at Banjara Hills, so that care continues without a break.
